Privacy policy
This is a translation of the French politique de confidentialité, which prevails.
The tools collect nothing
The tools (My server, generators, hardware calculator, error decoder, health check…) run entirely in your browser: the domain names, addresses and options you type are never sent. Only three forms transmit data, and only when you submit them: the newsletter, the stories andhelp requests (see below). The pages’ security policy (CSP) also forbids the browser from connecting to any other site; you can check it in the Network tab of your browser’s developer tools.
Passwords are not created in the same place depending on the tool:
- My server: the downloaded script only contains the command that generates them (
openssl rand). They are created on your server when you run the script, and never go through your browser. - docker-compose generator: they are drawn at random in your browser, with its secure random generator (
crypto.getRandomValues). They appear in the.envfile and go through your clipboard if you copy them, but are sent nowhere.
Analytics, without cookies
To know which pages are useful, the site counts visits with Umami, free softwarehosted on our own server: no data is sent to Google or any other company.
- No cookies are set, and nothing is stored in your browser to follow you.
- What is counted: the page viewed, the site you came from, the country, the type of device and browser.
- A few clicks are also counted, with nothing that identifies you: clicks on partner links (which offer, from which page) and on the buttons of the help page.
- Your IP address is not stored: Umami only uses it to count distinct visitors, in a scrambled form that changes regularly, which prevents following you over time.
- If your browser asks not to be tracked ("Do Not Track"), nothing is counted.
- The figures are only used to improve the site. They are not sold, shared or combined with other sources.
That is why there is no consent banner: no cookies, no cross-site tracking. To block this measurement anyway, a content blocker is enough (it uses the address /stats/m.js).
Local storage
The site saves in your browser your theme choice (light or dark) and, if you use them, your progress in the installation checklist and the 7-day path. This information never leaves your device; you can clear it with the site data in your browser settings.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store your email address, and nothing else, on our own server (Listmonk software), solely to send you the newsletter. Subscription is confirmed by email (double opt-in). The newsletters contain no tracking pixel or tracking link, and your IP address is not recorded. Every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link; your subscription page also lets you download or erase your data. Legal basis: your consent.
Stories ("They did it")
If you send a story, we receive what you typed: nickname, hardware, apps, text and optional photo. The photo’s metadata (GPS location, device, date) is removed on arrival. Your IP address is not kept (it is only used, in memory, to limit the number of submissions). Nothing is published without review; a rejected story is deleted. To have a published story removed, email us (address in the legal notice). Legal basis: your consent, given in the form.
Personal help requests
If you send a request from the Personal help page, we receive your first name, email address, chosen plan and message, stored on our own server. They are only used to reply to you and handle your request. Your IP address is not kept (it is only used, in memory, to limit the number of submissions). The request is deleted once handled, and after 6 months at the latest; if you become a client, invoices are kept as long as the law requires. Legal basis: your request (pre-contractual measures).
Partner links
Some links to Infomaniak and other hosts are affiliate links, marked "partner link". When you click, you leave MarketCompose: the host may then set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy. MarketCompose receives no personal data about you, only the amount of commissions.
Server logs
Like any web server, ours keeps technical logs (IP address, requested page, date) for 14 days at most, for security purposes (detecting attacks). They are neither shared nor used commercially.
Advertising
The site currently shows no advertising and uses no advertising cookies.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you can request access to or deletion of data about you by writing to the address in thelegal notice. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (the French data protection authority).
